WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2018

7:15 a.m.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Inflation
“Billy Blastvalve’s Kids’ Day”

Last year’s most popular morning. Balloons inflate and stay at the venue for one reason and one reason only … to share the “Dream of Flight” with the children of Walla Walla.

Last year, nearly 1,000 kids had the opportunity to get in a basket and float off the ground. Pilots are excited to share this event with the community again in 2018.

Named for one of Walla Walla’s favored sons, he was a Balloon Stampede co-founder and popular local personality, he is Bill Lloyd. Blastvalve passed on Mothers Day 2014.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Inflation & Flight
Media Day

Keep an eye to the sky for this year’s first Balloon Stampede flight of balloons, this is the day set aside for members of the working media to capture the sights and sounds of the Balloon Stampede’s first jump into the sky.

4:00 p.m.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Inflation & Flight (optional evening launch)

Some of our visiting pilots may just feel like going flying, nothing official or scheduled, just a few pilots having some fun at Tieton Park.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2018

7:15 a.m.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Inflation & Flight
“Gesa V.I.P. Day Launch”

Presented By : Gesa Credit Union

This is the first “all fly” morning for the 44th Balloon Stampede presented by Columbia REA to include all thirty plus pilots and balloons that are scheduled to participate in this years Stampede.

Passengers joining our pilots for today’s flight include our event corporate sponsors and special individual ‘patron sponsors’ of the Walla Walla Balloon Stampede. We’re pretty sure you’ll find some ‘ride winners’ scattered in to the baskets as well. No matter what, be sure and cheer them off the ground (and) say thanks for helping to ensure another year of hot air balloons coloring the sky above Walla Walla.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Inflation & Flight (optional evening launch)
Presented By : Gesa Credit Union

7:00 p.m./Dusk

Columbia REA Nite Glow Spectacular

Pilots turn darkness to light when spectators engage the pilots to ‘BURN’ following brief countdowns. The balloons look like 80′ tall Chinese lanterns.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2018

7:15 a.m.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Inflation & Flight
Mayor’s Cup Launch / Flight #3

Presented By : Amerigas Propane

This morning we’ll be challenging our pilots with a navigational task. They will be required to fly away from the launch site (and perhaps) be required to fly back to where they took off.

Keep in mind that our pilots can’t steer their balloons left or right. They are always dependent on the direction of the wind for where they go.

4:00 p.m.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Inflation & Flight (optional evening launch)
Presented By : Gesa Credit Union
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2018 / “THE LAST DANCE" (A QUIET LAUNCH)

7:15 a.m.

KEY EVENT / Balloon Launch & Flight
The “Great Launch”
(weather permitting)

Imagine all thirty plus balloons lifting off in just thirty seconds !!!

That’s what you should expect to see at the “Great Launch”. Simply put, an exercise in motion, a sky dance that will see the launch site completely cleared of balloons in a matter of seconds.

Stunning to see this most challenging flight operation is dependent upon near perfect weather to be executed. One thing is certain, you’ll want to be on the field for this one to experience a feeling of ‘falling away’ from the balloons.

This final launch is called the “Quiet Launch”. There is no music, no announcer, just the throwback moment for the pilots when Balloon Stampede launched in the wheat …

WE’LL SEE YOU AGAIN, WHEN THE BALLOONING WORLD RETURNS TO WALLA WALLA, WASHINGTON, ON
